Great Britain's Nick Dempsey claimed his first ever world title at the RS:X World Championships held at Olympic venue Weymouth in September 2009.
The victory helped sweeten the bitter disappointment of missing out on an Olympic podium spot in Beijing a year ago, and sees him become the first Brit to win an Olympic Class windsurfing world title in 18 years.
Nick is Britain's most successful windsurfer to date. At the 2004 Athens Olympics, he won bronze in a hard fought regatta on Mistral boards. Since the last Olympics, the Mistral has been replaced by the RS:X class and Nick has made the transfer from one to the other look easy. Nick was crowned European Champion in 2006 and is a World Championship medallist.
In 2008 Nick married Sarah Ayton, a double Olympic Sailing Gold medallist and in June 2009, they had a son, Thomas-Flynn.

RT @AinslieBen: Massive day, 3 races in 25/30 knots and very big waves. Not sure I'm going to make 200 metres with olympic torch on Saturday morning #spent
